PERSONAL FILES
Wackiest prank?
When I was a freshman the older guys at Arkansas threw me in the cold tub. Then they wanted me to stay underwater but I wouldn’t so they threw my clothes in there, too, pads and everything.
Nicknames?
T.J., T-Jack, Jack. My mom called me Varis and T-Bob.
Mottos:
I like a Bible verse from Romans: 8:31. If God is for me, who could be against me?
Tattoos?
I have 16 or 17. I have my son’s footprints on my ribs.
Best defensive players I’ve faced:
Ed Reed, DeMarcus Ware, Albert Haynesworth.
Best offensive players I’ve played with:
Brett Favre and Adrian Peterson. How many guys can say they played with two players as great as those two?
Closest friends in football:
Sidney Rice of the Vikings and Aundrae Allison of the Jets. Also from Alabama State, my son’s godfather Lee Carter, Jeremy Watkins, Fred Brewer, Billy Gresham, Keldrick Williams and Martravis Gary.
Favorite foods:
Shrimp, chicken and tilapia. I also love mushrooms.
Favorite movies:
All the “Friday” movies with Ice Cube. I watch so many movies, I love action and suspense.
What’s in your iPod?
A lot of rap. Lil Wayne, Drake, T.I., Young Jeezy, Young Dro. A lot of Southern rappers.
Superstitions:
I’m a very superstitious person and I get that from my grandma. When I was younger if I had my hands on my head she would knock them off. That’s supposed to be bad luck. She’s from Alabama, very old school, so she had a lot of superstitions most people probably wouldn’t have heard about. In football, when I’m starting, if I have a good game I’ll try to do exactly the same routine the next week, right down to the time of my massage, what I eat, the way I warm up. If I have a bad game I’ll just start over and do what I normally do, but I won’t put any emphasis on the order I do things.
Best qualities for a person to have:
Honesty is very important.
My hero is:
My mom. She is the big reason why I’m where I am. Without my mom there’s no telling where I’d be right now. I saw how hard she worked and what she did to keep us from wanting. My mom had to work hard to get some things that we had. I knew sometimes she probably wondered how she’d get the money for certain things. My grandma, too, she was an extension of my mom, and my auntie helped my mom a lot, too. Growing up I also had an uncle who was very important to me.
